We're pooling existing data and knowledge for a deeper understanding of arid zone restoration science

Arid and semi-arid zones comprise 40% of global land cover and represent important locations for agriculture, rangeland, and extractable resources. However, extensive human land use has led to degradation over large extents of these landscapes. Efforts to restore the dominant species and structures of these ecosystems have rapidly expanded worldwide, yet reinstatement of diversity, structure, and function remains difficult.

We're testing the importance of species selection and sources to overall restoration success

Participants in the GAZP network will be launching a coordinated experiment in 2020 to test the importance of species selection and sources to overall restoration success. The protocol is under development and will be released early next year. Keep an eye out, and email the leadership if you are interested in participating in the experiment or engaging with this planning stage.

And we need your help! Join us by contributing your restoration data

The first is to add your experience to the effort through data contribution to the GAZP Database. To do so, please read the guidelines and go through the online data submission process. Contributors are kept aware of publication efforts that may arise from the data and are invited to participate. Additionally, the database will become a publicly accessible tool in future, allowing exploration of regional restoration methods and outcomes.
